The smoothie that tastes like dessert
My kids beg for this "milkshake" - but it's actually packed with nutrients...
Hey!
Last week, my neighbor watched me make my afternoon smoothie and said, "That looks like a chocolate milkshake!"
I laughed and said, "It basically is... but it's actually good for you."
She didn't believe me until I let her try it. Her exact words? "Wait, this is HEALTHY?!"
Here's the thing: Healthy doesn't have to taste like punishment.
This smoothie has become legendary in my house. My kids literally beg for it. My husband steals sips when he thinks I'm not looking. And I've made it probably 200+ times because it satisfies my sweet tooth while actually nourishing my body.
The magic recipe:
1 frozen banana (this is KEY for creaminess)
1 tbsp almond butter
1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
1 cup almond milk
Handful of spinach (trust me, you can't taste it!)
1 tsp vanilla extract
Ice as needed
Blend it up and boom - chocolate peanut butter "milkshake" that's actually breakfast.
What makes it work:
The banana adds natural sweetness and makes it thick
Almond butter gives it that rich, dessert-like texture
Cocoa powder = chocolate flavor without the sugar
Spinach sneaks in nutrients without affecting taste
Vanilla makes everything taste more indulgent
The result? Something that tastes like dessert but gives you sustained energy, fiber, healthy fats, and even some hidden vegetables.
My kids have no idea they're drinking spinach. They just know it tastes amazing.
But here's what I love most about this recipe: It proves that eating healthy doesn't mean giving up foods you actually enjoy. You just have to get a little creative.
And this is just ONE recipe.
My smoothie collection has 30 different "dessert smoothies" - everything from strawberry cheesecake to cookies and cream to chocolate cherry "ice cream."
Each one tastes like dessert but is made with real, nourishing ingredients. Perfect for breakfast, post-workout, or when you want something sweet without the sugar crash.
What's your favorite dessert flavor? I bet I have a healthy smoothie version of it!
Cheers to dessert for breakfast! Sarah
P.S. - Pro tip: Make this smoothie extra thick and eat it with a spoon like soft-serve ice cream. You're welcome! 🍦
